Like breathing, digestion is one of those unconscious functions (the jargon is “autonomic”) which normally we don’t even think about unless something goes wrong.  But this doesn’t mean it can safely be ignored.

Be in no doubt,

a properly functioning colon is vital for the health of your whole organism

But of course it isn’t something most of us like to talk about.  Principally because problems in this department usually reveal themselves through unpleasant and potentially embarrassing symptoms such as bloating and abdominal gas, constipation, nausea and vomiting.   Not that these are usually serious in themselves; they may appear sporadically and infrequently, perhaps following an intake of unfamiliar food and drink, or as a response to a period of unusual stress of one kind or another.  But if such attacks become more frequent, and are ignored and left untreated, they can lead to chronic conditions (often misleadingly grouped together as “Irritable Bowel Syndrome”) which may eventually have serious long-term health consequences.

a gentle, natural colon cleanse can help

Perhaps because of the perceived embarrassment surrounding this important aspect of natural health, colon cleansing treatments have often been promoted within the more glamorous weight-loss niche.

And in fact there’s nothing particularly wrong with this, because follow a good internal cleansing plan and you may well lose some weight.  Great if that’s what you want, but probably best to think of it as a natural consequence of your system working more efficiently, rather than an end in itself.

Put simply, if you have more energy you’re likely to be more active and therefore to burn off more calories.  And after all, what could be less conducive to motivation to exercise than that awful feeling of bloating and gas retention, or the outright pain and discomfort of indigestion.  But as desirable as weight loss or improved athletic fitness may be, they’re not the most important benefits of a properly functioning digestive system.

The Yogis of India, for example, are the masters of perhaps the most sophisticated natural system of physical conditioning the world has seen.  And in addition to the control of the breath, they attach supreme importance to the health of the abdominal organs.  This is not because of a desire for improved strength, flexibility or endurance (although they have these things in spades!), but because of their belief that almost all illnesses and malfunctions of the human organism have their ultimate roots in disorders of the digestive tract.

Now that might sound odd to those of us used to Western medicine’s emphasis on tracking down and treating the manifestations of illness (symptoms) wherever they occur in the body.  But a little reflection should reveal the wisdom of the idea, because even the best and most natural wholefood diet available can do you no good at all if your body can’t absorb the goodness of those foods.  And without those essential vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and other nutrients your system is almost bound to suffer in efficiency.  And a poorly functioning immune system, to give just one example, is proven precursor of illnesses ranging from the minor to the potentially catastrophic.

Unfortunately it would probably take many years of dedicated training (not to mention a very understanding partner!) for you to be able even to attempt the extremely demanding postures, breathing exercises and internal cleansing techniques practised by the Yogis.

Luckily an effective natural colon cleanse now offers a simple but equally effective alternative

A good colon cleanse product will help rid the body of natural waste products and toxins which may otherwise accumulate – making the whole system sluggish.  It will also help replenish the supply of helpful “probiotic” bacteria, which should support and enhance the digestive process, but which are all too often adversely affected by poor diet, stress, alcohol, other drugs and medications, and a wide variety of external environmental factors.
